We don't search from scratch for each engagement. We maintain a pre-vetted talent pool — engineers who have passed our technical and communication assessments, have staff augmentation experience, and are available or available within 2 weeks. Matching process: requirements analysis (not just a job description — we understand the project context, team dynamics, tech stack specifics, and working style. A "senior React developer" role in a 3-person startup building greenfield is completely different from the same title in a 50-person enterprise team maintaining a legacy application. We match for context, not just keywords), technical assessment (every engineer in our pool has completed technical assessments relevant to their specialisation — not generic coding puzzles but practical assessments: building features, reviewing code, debugging production issues, and designing systems. Assessment results: shared with the client for transparency), communication evaluation (staff augmentation success depends heavily on communication — the engineer must participate actively in team discussions, ask clarifying questions, raise concerns early, and communicate progress. We assess communication separately from technical skills — a brilliant engineer who doesn't communicate well in a team setting will underperform in augmentation), and cultural fit indicators (timezone work patterns, collaboration style, standup participation, code review approach — matching the engineer's working style with the client team's culture). Candidate presentation: typically 2-3 pre-vetted candidates presented within 3-5 business days. Each candidate: with CV, technical assessment results, communication evaluation, and relevant project experience. The client: interviewing candidates and selecting the best fit. Onboarding and integration (week 1-2): embedding the engineer in your team. We don't just provide an engineer and walk away. Structured onboarding: day 1 (access setup — repository access, development environment, communication channels, project management tools. The engineer should be able to pull code and run the project locally by end of day 1), days 2-3 (codebase orientation — guided walkthrough of the codebase architecture, key modules, coding conventions, testing approach, and deployment pipeline. Paired with a team member for context transfer), days 4-5 (first contributions — small, well-defined tasks that help the engineer learn the codebase while contributing value. Code reviews providing feedback on conventions and standards), and week 2 (full integration — the engineer participating in sprint planning, taking on standard-sized tasks, and operating as a regular team member). The onboarding: designed to get the engineer productive quickly without burdening the existing team with excessive hand-holding. Ongoing management (throughout engagement): ensuring continued performance. Regular check-ins: weekly 1:1 between the augmented engineer and a ZTABS engagement manager — discussing workload, challenges, team dynamics, and development opportunities. Client feedback: monthly structured feedback from the client's team lead/engineering manager — performance rating, communication quality, technical contribution, and any concerns. Performance issues: addressed immediately — if the engineer isn't meeting expectations, we work with both the engineer and the client to resolve the issue. If resolution isn't possible: replacement engineer provided within 1 week. Knowledge transfer (at engagement end): ensuring the team retains the knowledge. Documentation: the augmented engineer documenting their contributions — architectural decisions, implementation details, and operational procedures for systems they built or modified. Code quality: all code reviewed and approved through the standard team review process — no "contractor code" that nobody understands after the engagement ends. Handoff sessions: structured knowledge transfer sessions where the augmented engineer walks the permanent team through their work — answering questions and ensuring comfortable ownership transition.
