Our Lisbon deployments leverage Portugal's position as an EU member with strong digital infrastructure. Portugal's subsea cable connections (ELLALINK to Brazil, multiple routes to the US and Northern Europe) make Lisbon a natural AI hub for lusophone markets. For cloud-hosted AI within the EU, AWS eu-south-2 (Spain, close to Lisbon), Azure West Europe, and Google Cloud europe-southwest1 (Madrid) are the nearest options — Portugal does not yet have a hyperscaler region, but colocation providers like Equinix LS1 (Lisbon), Data Center Portugal (DCP), and Altice's facilities provide local infrastructure with GPU support. For clients requiring Portuguese sovereignty, we deploy on DCP's Lisbon campus or client premises. Portuguese-language AI is a key differentiator: while Portuguese is the world's 6th most spoken language, it is underrepresented in most commercial LLMs. European Portuguese differs significantly from Brazilian Portuguese in vocabulary, syntax, and pronunciation — models trained primarily on Brazilian data underperform on Portuguese business text. We fine-tune Llama 3, Mistral, and Sabiá (a Portuguese-language LLM from Brazil's Maritaca AI) on European Portuguese corpora for clients who need native-quality language processing.
